Babysteps /Mother-Baby Incentive Program

Pregnant and parenting mothers, along with their support networks (friends, family, spouses, and others), are encouraged to join educational classes that cover a diverse range of parenting topics—there are nearly 75 different subjects available, taught by volunteer professional instructors at BabySteps. Class examples include Making Homemade Baby Food with a Nutritionist, Relaxation and Stress Relief with a Nurse, and Safe Medications to Take During Pregnancy, among others! After attending classes, participants can use the points earned from their attendance and healthy activities (such as receiving prenatal care, completing book reports, or joining stroller-exercise groups) to shop in the BabySteps Boutique. Free childcare is provided whenever BabySteps is operational. To qualify, mothers must be on a limited income (as assessed through WIC, Medicaid, and other social services at 185% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines) and must be pregnant to enroll. BabySteps offers educational classes and community-building activities twice a week. By participating, parents accumulate points that can be redeemed in the BabySteps Boutique for essentials like diapers, wipes, baby clothing, furniture, and more. Referrals can be made for all limited-income pregnant mothers, single fathers, caregivers, and families. Participants may self-refer or be referred by their healthcare providers or other service agencies. No prior calls or appointments are necessary for registration at BabySteps. Registration occurs on Tuesdays at 12:30 PM and Thursdays at 3:30 PM before daytime educational sessions. The enrollment process takes about an hour, and participants are encouraged to stay for class afterward.
