Boise Juvenile Detention Center

Juveniles may be detained in a center based on a court's directive or if they are considered a danger to themselves or others, or if there is a possibility they might evade the jurisdiction before their upcoming court date. A Judge can mandate a juvenile's detention following a hearing on the relevant issue. Additionally, when police file criminal charges against juveniles, they may also be taken to detention. There are specific guidelines that both the detention center and law enforcement must adhere to when detaining juveniles. Those admitted from the community will participate in a detention hearing where they face the charges, and a Judge decides if they can be safely released back into the community. This hearing is to be held before a juvenile Judge within 24 hours of their admission, not counting weekends and holidays.
