The Bureau of Emergency Medical Services & Preparedness manages a comprehensive statewide emergency medical services (EMS) system aimed at reducing death and disability from illness or injury. Idaho's EMS faces obstacles due to its extensive rural and wilderness regions, challenging terrain, and adverse weather conditions. The state operates a centralized EMS communications center connected via microwave to mountaintop repeaters, ensuring emergency communication with all air and ground EMS units, as well as hospitals. The EMS program offers initial support and technical assistance to EMS units across the state, including specialized services for children and trauma initiatives. The Bureau of EMS is part of the Division of Health, and services are available in English and Spanish through interpreters. Intake procedures can be obtained by contacting the bureau.
