English Language Center - Boise
Community Resource
Acerca de este recurso
The English Language Center provides courses in English language, American Culture Orientations, and Computer Literacy. The primary daytime classes are offered at various levels, including Literacy, Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, and a specialized class for refugee elders. Classroom instruction is informed by contemporary research in adult language learning. The curriculum is collaboratively developed by staff and students. The teaching approach emphasizes project-based learning that integrates language use rather than traditional grammar and vocabulary lessons. Language skills are 'discovered' through project work, with structured forms introduced based on their relevance to the tasks. The curriculum often emphasizes life skills, particularly those that enhance employability. Computer literacy skills are fostered in a dedicated computer lab. The program supports multiple languages, including Bosnian, Vietnamese, Former Soviet, and Spanish.
