The mission is centered on preserving life, minimizing injuries, alleviating human suffering, and preventing or mitigating damage to properties, wildlife, natural resources, the environment, and the economy due to both natural and human-made disasters, including terrorism and the deployment of weapons of mass destruction. It involves coordinating and managing mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives to support local governments, as well as facilitating local, state, and federal assistance programs aimed at restoring affected communities to their pre-disaster state. Employees of the Bureau of Homeland Security are civilian specialists in emergency management, trained to oversee disaster response and recovery operations during significant emergencies. This bureau operates under the Military Division, which is part of the Office of the Governor. Language support is available in English.
