The Idaho Bureau of Laboratories (IBL) primarily provides laboratory services to back the Department's programs, those assigned to public health districts, and other state agencies. It focuses on four main service areas: testing, inspection, training, and outreach, working with public health partners to identify and track both acute and chronic health threats. The bureau is divided into five sections: 1. Business Operations, overseen by Tamara Hogg (334-2235 ext. 262), which handles administration, billing, budgeting, customer service, facilities, laboratory information management, and shipping and receiving. 2. Clinical Analysis, led by Colleen Greenwalt (334-2235 ext. 228), acts as the State's diagnostic and reference laboratory for pathogen detection in clinical samples, maintaining CLIA certification as a high-complexity lab. 3. Environmental Analysis, managed by Ernie Bader (334-2235 ext. 290), conducts chemical and microbiological tests on water, soil, and food, holding EPA certification for the drinking water program and serving as the state's primary lab for it. 4. Laboratory Improvement, directed by David Eisentrager (334-2235 ext. 245), registers Idaho clinical labs with CMS and ensures adherence to state quality assurance standards, inspecting selected clinical labs and all X-ray machines while also coordinating continuing education webinars. 5. Laboratory Preparedness and Response, co-managed by Biological Threat Coordinator Walt Delong (334-2235 ext. 252) and Chemical Threat Coordinator Michael Stevenson (334-2235 ext. 269), oversees the Idaho Laboratory Response Network Sentinel Laboratory System, providing round-the-clock support for confirming biological or chemical terrorism agents.
