Public mental health services are organized into key areas: Community Crisis Response and Services for Adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) or children facing serious emotional disturbances. COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE SERVICES serve as the first point of contact for adults in mental health crises, which can involve psychiatric symptoms like self-harm or threats to others. Each Welfare region in Idaho has a community health center along with one or more satellite offices that offer 24-hour crisis response services, including hotlines, emergency psychiatric evaluations, treatment referrals, and consultations with law enforcement, local hospitals, and other social service agencies as needed. SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS services focus on individuals aged 18 and older who experience the most severe and enduring forms of mental illness. Eligible individuals must have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, major affective disorder, delusional disorder, or borderline personality disorder, with the condition significantly affecting their role performance or coping abilities in at least two areas of functioning, either continuously or intermittently. SPMI services encompass screening and referral, assertive community treatment, crisis intervention, case management, psychiatric and medical services, short-term outpatient therapy, individual and group psychosocial rehabilitation, consultation and education, and community supportive employment. The Mental Health Program is managed by the Division of Behavioral Health. Services are available in English, with interpreters accessible as needed.
