Oral Health Program - Dhw

The Idaho Oral Health Program (IOHP) is supported by the Federal Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant (MCH) and the CDC State Oral Disease Prevention Program. MCH provides funding for a population-focused initiative aimed at children from birth to 12 years, emphasizing oral health promotion and dental disease prevention. Local fluoride varnish and sealant clinics are organized through contracts with the seven Local Public Health Districts in the state. Services include school-based fluoride varnish and sealant clinics, early childhood caries prevention via fluoride varnish clinics, preventive dental health education in schools and communities, and collaboration with community partners for consultation and technical assistance. Additionally, CDC funding allows IOHP to enhance the state's ability to tackle oral health issues by establishing a common agenda among stakeholders through the creation of a State Oral Health Plan, improving oral health surveillance by gathering and analyzing data to guide, prioritize, implement, and assess oral health initiatives, and facilitating a State Leadership Team. The program is managed by the Bureau of Community and Environmental Health. Services are available in English, with interpreter services offered.
