Clandestine Drug (Meth) Lab Cleanup

Illegal clandestine drug labs can endanger the health of unsuspecting home buyers or renters. These facilities are primarily used for the production of methamphetamine, often known as meth, speed, or crank. Once law enforcement uncovers an illegal meth lab, most of the hazardous materials, such as chemicals and containers, are typically removed. Nevertheless, remnants of contaminants may remain on surfaces like floors, walls, counters, carpets, furniture, sinks, drains, and ventilation systems, posing health risks to those who come into contact with them. Senate Bill 1122 authorized the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare to create and manage a program that tracks properties previously utilized as clandestine drug labs. The regulations (IDAPA16.02.24 [PDF]) were passed by the Legislature and took effect on April 11, 2006.
