The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for preparing for and responding to bioterrorism and other public health emergencies. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: Programs focus on the intersection of human health with the environment and surrounding ecosystems. **Environmental Health Programs cover: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Waterborne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Indoor Air Quality (Radon); Lead Health Program; Methamphetamine Labs; Public Pools; Solid Waste.** Land Development programs include: Critical Materials Regulation; Mortgage Surveys; Non-Domestic Waste Water; Public Water Systems; Rathdrum Aquifer Protection; Shallow Injection Well Inventory; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). FAMILY PLANNING: Offers services such as education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals. A variety of birth control methods are available, and educational resources can be provided for community outreach upon request. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at health departments or occasionally at special off-site locations. These vaccinations are often low-cost or free for parents unable to pay. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment, and travelers should contact their local health department for specific vaccine requirements. Adult vaccines, including Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza vaccines may also be provided. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that helps individuals keep track of their immunizations and ensure they receive necessary vaccines on time. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that offers healthy foods each month, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program information, and referrals to healthcare providers. It provides individual counseling with registered dietitians, breastfeeding support, recipes, newsletters, and educational materials. WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women (up to one year postpartum), infants up to one year old, and children under five. WOMEN'S HEALTH CHECK contractor: This federally funded program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance covering these tests, who meet income criteria, and fall into specific age categories or have concerning symptoms.
