Head Start (Aberdeen) - Manuel Cavazos

Seasonal Head Start operates from May to November and is a nationwide preschool initiative designed for children from income-eligible families. Local nonprofit organizations manage Head Start centers across the country, accepting applications for children aged 0 to 5. Families with incomes below poverty guidelines are prioritized, and the program also accommodates children with special needs or those at high risk. A limited number of over-income children with special needs may be accepted. The program addresses children's medical, dental, educational, and social service needs at no cost. Required documentation includes proof of income, the child's birthdate, and immunization records. Head Start provides various supportive services, including social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, support for disabilities, dental care, and transportation. This initiative aims to enrich the lives of children, families, staff, and the community, offering quality education and family-focused services. The program runs five days a week for 12 hours each day, providing four meals for the children, and encourages parental involvement through volunteer opportunities and positive parenting classes.
