Each district features a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. These services include community and home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. Additionally, the Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a unified statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism threats and other public health crises. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: Environmental Health programs focus on the intersection of human health with the physical environment and the ecosystem. **These programs cover: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Indoor Air Quality (Radon); Lead Health Program; Methamphetamine Labs; Public Pools; Solid Waste.** Land Development initiatives encompass: Mortgage Surveys; Non-Domestic Waste Water; Public Water Systems; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Plan Reviews, Permits, Inspections). FAMILY PLANNING: Offers Family Planning services such as education, counseling, pregnancy tests, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer screenings, STD screenings, and HIV testing), and referrals. A variety of birth control methods are available. Educational materials can be requested. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health districts provide routine vaccinations for children through clinics at the health district or occasionally at special off-site locations. These vaccinations are typically low-cost or free for parents who cannot afford them. Travel immunizations are available by appointment, so contact your local health district for specific vaccine requirements for different destinations. Adult vaccines like Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza may also be offered. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that helps you and your doctor keep track of your immunizations and ensures you receive only the necessary vaccines when needed. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC is a supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children that provides: Monthly healthy food options redeemable with WIC vouchers, health screenings, nutrition education classes, community program information, referrals to healthcare providers, individual counseling with registered dietitians, breastfeeding support, recipes, newsletters, and educational resources. WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women (up to one year postpartum), infants up to one year old, and children under five.
