Head Start Sandpoint Center (Sandpoint)

Head Start is a comprehensive preschool initiative available nationwide for children from families that meet income eligibility criteria. Local nonprofit organizations operate the Head Start centers across the country. The program is open for applications for children aged 3 and 4, specifically those whose family income falls below poverty levels. Eligible children must be 3 or 4 years old by August 31 and may include those with special needs or at high risk. A limited number of over-income children with special needs may also be accepted. The program provides free services that address medical, dental, educational, and social service needs. Required documentation includes proof of income, the child's birthdate, and immunization records. Head Start offers various supportive services, including social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health, education, and support for disabilities. The program aims to enhance the lives of children, families, staff, and the broader community by providing quality education and family-centered services. It serves children aged 3 to 5 from low-income households and operates a four-day-a-week schedule, providing meals each day. Parental involvement is encouraged, and the program also offers positive parenting classes to assist families in educational matters. Services are primarily offered in English.
