For inquiries, contact the Medical Reserve Corps at 208-415-5180 or the Swine Flu Hotline at 208-415-5299. Idaho consists of seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local agencies. Each district operates independently and has a health board appointed by county commissioners. Services offered can differ by district and include community and home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, often provided through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information on local services, reach out to your nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to create a comprehensive statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism and public health emergencies. Environmental Health initiatives address the relationship between human health and the environment, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology (animal bites, food and waterborne illnesses), food establishment permits, indoor air quality (including radon), lead health programs, methamphetamine labs, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs focus on critical materials regulation, mortgage surveys, non-domestic wastewater, public water systems, Rathdrum Aquifer protection, shallow injection well inventory, subdivision review, and subsurface sewage evaluations. Family Planning services encompass education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Immunization services include routine childhood vaccinations, which are low cost or free for those unable to pay, as well as overseas immunizations by appointment. Adult vaccines such as Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza may also be accessible. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that helps track immunizations for individuals and their healthcare providers. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program offers monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program referrals, individual counseling with dietitians, breastfeeding support, and educational resources for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children under five. The Women's Health Check program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women who lack insurance coverage for these services, meet income guidelines, and fall within specific age criteria. For more information, call for general inquiries, location details, and appointment scheduling.
