MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS PHONE # 208-533-3145DISTRICT OFFICE: The seven health districts in Idaho work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare along with other state and local organizations. Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They address local requirements by providing diverse services, which can differ from one district to another. These services include community health nursing, environmental health, health promotion, preparedness, and nutrition programs, many of which are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information on available services in your area, reach out to your local District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a unified statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism threats and other public health crises. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: This encompasses programs addressing the intersection of human health with the physical environment and surrounding ecosystems. **Environmental Health Programs cover: Day Care; Epidemiology (Food and Waterborne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Public Pools; Solid Waste.** Land Development programs include: Critical Materials Regulation; Mortgage Surveys; Non-Domestic Waste Water; Public Water Systems; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). FAMILY PLANNING: Offers Family Planning services that include education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and sexually transmitted disease screenings), and referrals. Various birth control methods are available, along with educational materials and presentations upon request. Emergency contraception is also accessible. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments provide regular childhood vaccinations at clinics within the health department or at special off-site locations. These vaccinations are often low-cost or free for families unable to pay. Travel immunizations are available by appointment, and travelers should check with local health departments regarding necessary vaccines. Adult vaccines such as Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza may also be offered. The Immunization Registry is a free, voluntary, and confidential service that helps you and your healthcare provider keep track of immunizations. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: This is a supplemental nutrition program providing healthy foods monthly through WIC vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program information, healthcare referrals, individual counseling with registered dietitians, breastfeeding support, recipes, newsletters, and educational materials. WIC targets: Pregnant women, breastfeeding women (up to one year postpartum), infants up to one year, and children under five. WOMEN'S HEALTH CHECK: A federally funded initiative offering free breast and cervical cancer screenings for qualifying women. Eligibility includes those without insurance covering mammograms or pap tests, meeting income guidelines, and being either 50-64 years old, 30-49 with symptoms but no insurance, or 65+ without Medicare or Medicare part B. Available languages include English and Spanish.
