Public mental health services concentrate on key areas: Community Crisis Response and assistance for adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) or children with significant emotional disturbances. COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE SERVICES serve as the initial intervention for adults undergoing a mental health crisis, which may include psychiatric symptoms like self-harm or harm to others. Each Welfare region in Idaho is equipped with a community health center and additional satellite offices that offer 24-hour crisis response services, including hotlines, emergency psychiatric evaluations, treatment referrals, and consultations with law enforcement, local hospitals, and other social service agencies as needed. SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS services are aimed at individuals aged 18 and older who experience the most extreme and ongoing forms of mental illness. Eligible individuals must have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, major affective disorder, delusional disorder, or borderline personality disorder, with the severity of their condition significantly disrupting their ability to function in at least two areas consistently or intermittently. SPMI services encompass screening and referral, assertive community treatment, crisis intervention, case management, psychiatric and medical services, short-term outpatient therapy, individual and group psychosocial rehabilitation, consultation and education, and community-supported employment. The Mental Health Program is overseen by the Division of Behavioral Health. Services are available in English, with interpreters accessible upon request.
