Idaho consists of seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local organizations. Environmental Health programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology (animal bites, food and waterborne illnesses), food establishment permits and inspections, indoor air quality (including radon), lead health programs, methamphetamine lab inspections, public pool regulations, and solid waste management. Land Development programs oversee critical materials regulation, mortgage surveys, non-domestic wastewater management, public water systems, Rathdrum Aquifer protection, shallow injection well inventory, subdivision reviews, and subsurface sewage evaluations and permits.
