Caldwell Housing Authority

The Caldwell Housing Authority (CHA) is situated in the rural area of western Canyon County. Initially established in 1939 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as the Idaho Migratory Labor Camp, it was among the few federal labor camps created to house farmers affected by the Great Depression. In 1950, the camp was handed over to the Housing Authority, which had been established just a few years earlier. Nearly 72 years later, this site has transitioned from a campsite that could host 350 individuals to a contemporary town featuring 243 housing units and various amenities that serve around 1,500 people. Since its inception, numerous planned developments have taken place, enhancing the quality of housing to levels comparable to, or even exceeding, that found in many rural areas. CHA offers various floor plans and room configurations to suit families of all sizes. Additionally, as the housing is subsidized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the rent remains quite affordable.
