Head Start (Happy Day) Wicap

Head Start is a national preschool initiative designed for children from families that meet income eligibility criteria. Local nonprofit organizations operate Head Start centers across the country, accepting applications from pregnant women and children aged 0-5 years. Families whose income falls below poverty levels can apply, along with children who have special needs or are considered at high risk. A limited number of children with special needs from families above the income threshold may also be accepted. The program provides assistance with medical, dental, educational, and social service needs at no cost. Required documentation includes income verification, proof of the child's birthdate, and immunization records. Head Start offers a range of supportive services, including social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health, education, disabilities, dental care, and transportation. The program aims to enhance the lives of children, families, staff, and the community by offering quality education and family-centered services. It serves children aged 0-5 from low-income families with a four-day weekly program that includes two meals each day.
