Idaho's seven health districts collaborate closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local entities. Each district features a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They cater to local needs by offering a diverse range of services that differ by district, including community and home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, often through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information on community services, contact your local Health District. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other health districts to develop a statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism and public health crises. Environmental Health initiatives focus on the intersection of human health with environmental factors and ecosystems, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology, food safety, lead health, methamphetamine labs, public pools, and solid waste management. Family Planning services encompass education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams, and referrals, offering various birth control methods. Immunizations are provided through local health districts, including routine childhood vaccinations and travel vaccines by appointment. Adult vaccines like Td boosters, hepatitis, pneumonia, and influenza may also be available. The Immunization Registry is a free service that helps track vaccination status. The WIC program offers nutritional support for women, infants, and children, providing healthy food, health screenings, nutrition education, and referrals to healthcare providers. WIC serves pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under five. Public Health Preparedness works with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other districts. Satellite offices are located in Cambridge, Council, and New Meadows, with English and Spanish language support available.
