The Medical Reserve Corps can be reached at 208-239-5208, and the Swine Flu Hotline for Region 6 is available at 208-234-5888. Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local entities. Each district features a board of health appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of state agencies. They cater to local requirements by providing a diverse range of services, which may differ from one district to another, including community health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs. Many services are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information on available services in your area, reach out to your local District Health Department. Additionally, the Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism threats and public health emergencies. Environmental Health programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and the ecosystem. These programs encompass Day Care, Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness), Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections), Indoor Air Quality (Radon), Lead Health Program, Methamphetamine Labs, Public Pools, and Solid Waste management. Land Development programs include Critical Materials Regulation, Mortgage Surveys, Non-Domestic Waste Water, Public Water Systems, Rathdrum Aquifer Protection, Shallow Injection Well Inventory, Subdivision Review, and Subsurface Sewage evaluations and permits. Family Planning services provide education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Educational resources and speakers can be requested for community events. Immunizations are offered by local health departments through routine childhood vaccination clinics, with low or no costs for families unable to pay. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment. Travelers should contact their local health department for necessary vaccines. Adult vaccines, including Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza vaccines, may also be accessible. The Immunization Registry is a confidential service that keeps track of immunizations for individuals and their families, ensuring they receive the necessary vaccines on time. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program provides healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program information, referrals, and support for breastfeeding. WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women (up to one year postpartum), infants under one year, and children under five. The Women's Health Check program offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings to eligible women without insurance covering these tests, who meet income criteria, and fall into specific age groups or have concerning symptoms. Services are available in English, with interpreters accessible. For general inquiries, locations, and appointments, please call.
