The Medical Reserve Corps can be reached at 208-239-5208, and the Swine Flu Hotline for Region 6 is available at 208-234-5888. Idaho's seven health districts operate in close partnership with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local organizations. Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and functions independently from state agencies. They cater to local demands by offering diverse services that differ by district, including community health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, often through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For detailed information about available services in your area, it is advisable to contact the nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other health entities to create a comprehensive statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism and public health emergencies. Environmental Health programs address the intersection of human health with the environment and include areas such as Day Care, Epidemiology, Food Establishments, Indoor Air Quality, Lead Health, Methamphetamine Labs, Public Pools, and Solid Waste management. Land Development initiatives cover Critical Materials Regulation, Mortgage Surveys, Non-Domestic Waste Water, Public Water Systems, and more. Family Planning services encompass education, counseling, pregnancy testing, and comprehensive physical exams, with various birth control methods available. Immunization services are provided for routine childhood vaccinations at health department clinics, often at low or no cost. Adult vaccines are also available, and the Immunization Registry helps track vaccination status. The WIC program offers nutritional support for women, infants, and children, including healthy food vouchers, health screenings, and nutrition education. The Women's Health Check program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women without adequate health insurance.
