ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: Environmental Health initiatives focus on the intersection of human health with the physical environment and local ecosystems. **Environmental Health Programs include: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Indoor Air Quality (Radon); Lead Health Program; Methamphetamine Labs; Public Pools; Solid Waste.** Land Development programs cover: Critical Materials Regulation; Mortgage Surveys; Non-Domestic Waste Water; Public Water Systems; Rathdrum Aquifer Protection; Shallow Injection Well Inventory; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). FAMILY PLANNING: This service offers Family Planning resources, including education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (which include cancer screenings, STD screenings, and HIV testing), and referrals. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments provide routine childhood vaccinations at clinics held at the health department or occasionally at special off-site locations. These vaccinations are offered at low or no cost for parents who cannot afford them. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment. Contact your local health department to learn which vaccines are required for travel destinations. Travelers receiving vaccines from the health department will be responsible for the cost of the vaccine. Adult vaccines, such as Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza vaccines, may also be accessible. The Immunization Registry is a free, voluntary, and confidential service that helps you and your doctor keep track of your immunizations and ensures you receive only the necessary vaccines when needed.
