The MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS can be reached at 208-321-2215, and the Swine Flu Hotline for Region 4 is available at 208-321-2222. Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare along with several state and local organizations. Each district has a board of health appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They cater to local requirements, offering a variety of services that differ by district, including community and home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs. Many services are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information about available services in your area, contact your local District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to create a unified statewide strategy for addressing bio-terrorism threats and other public health crises. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and local ecosystems, covering areas such as Day Care, Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness), Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections), and Public Pools. Land Development Programs encompass Mortgage Surveys, Public Water Systems, Subdivision Review, and Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH services include Family Planning, education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Educational materials and speakers can be provided for community events upon request, and applications for temporary Medicaid cards for prenatal care are accessible. IMMUNIZATIONS are administered at local health departments, offering routine childhood vaccinations at little to no cost for those unable to pay. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the local health department. The Immunization Registry is a free, voluntary service that helps track vaccination history and ensures timely immunizations. The WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM offers monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community referrals, and individual counseling with registered dietitians. WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women up to one year postpartum, non-nursing women up to six months postpartum, infants, and children under five. The WOMEN'S HEALTH CHECK program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance covering these tests, meeting income criteria, and being U.S. Citizens or having an Alien ID card. Eligible women include those aged 50-64, those aged 40-49 who haven't had a pap test in five years or longer, those aged 30-49 with breast cancer symptoms (with clinician approval), and those aged 30-39 with cervical cancer symptoms confirmed by a healthcare provider, as well as women aged 65 or older who are not eligible for Medicare or lack Medicare Part B. Services are offered in English and Spanish, with interpreters available. For general inquiries, location information, and appointment scheduling, please call.
