Head Start (Preston) - Bear River

Head Start is a national preschool initiative aimed at children from families that meet income eligibility criteria. Local nonprofit organizations operate Head Start centers across the country, accepting applications for children who are 4 years old by August 31. This program is available for families whose income falls below poverty guidelines, and it also accommodates children with special needs or those considered at high risk, including a limited number of over-income children with special needs. The services provided are complimentary and include assistance with medical, dental, educational, and social service needs. Documentation required includes proof of income, the child's birth date, and immunization records. Head Start offers various supportive services such as social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, and support for disabilities and dental care. Center-based programs typically consist of 4-hour sessions, four days a week, while home-based families receive weekly visits. Children are provided with two meals each day, and parents are encouraged to volunteer.
