Public mental health services are primarily divided into two key areas: Community Crisis Response and assistance for Adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) or children facing serious emotional disturbances. COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE SERVICES serve as the initial intervention for adults undergoing a mental health crisis, which may involve psychiatric symptoms like self-harm or threats to others. Each Welfare region in Idaho is equipped with a community health center and additional satellite offices that offer 24-hour crisis response services, including hotlines, emergency psychiatric evaluations, treatment referrals, and consultations with law enforcement, local hospitals, and other social service entities as needed. SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS services cater to individuals aged 18 and older who are afflicted by the most severe and persistent mental health conditions. Eligible individuals must have a diagnosis such as schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, major affective disorder, delusional disorder, or borderline personality disorder, with the severity of their condition significantly impacting their ability to function in at least two areas of their lives, either continuously or intermittently. SPMI services encompass screening and referral, assertive community treatment, crisis intervention, case management, psychiatric and medical services, short-term outpatient therapy, individual and group psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as consultation, education, and community supportive employment. The Mental Health Program is managed by the Division of Behavioral Health, and services are available in English, with interpreters accessible upon request.
