Head Start (Emmett) - Wicap

Head Start is a comprehensive preschool initiative designed for children from families that meet income eligibility requirements. Local nonprofit organizations manage Head Start centers across the nation. The program accepts applications for children aged 3 and 5 years. Families must have incomes that fall below poverty thresholds, and children need to be 3 years old by September 1. The program also accommodates children with special needs or those considered at high risk, with a limited number of spots available for over-income children with special needs. It provides assistance for medical, dental, educational, and social service needs at no cost. Required documentation includes proof of income, the child's birthdate, and immunization records. Head Start offers various supportive services, including social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, disability support, dental care, and transportation. The program aims to enrich the lives of children, families, staff, and the community while helping families navigate life's challenges through quality education and family-centered services. It serves children aged 0-5 years from low-income backgrounds, providing a five-day-a-week program with 12 hours of care each day, including four meals. Parents are encouraged to participate as volunteers, and the program also offers positive parenting classes. Transportation is available, and services are provided in English.
