Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare as well as various state and local organizations. Each district is governed by a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of state agencies. Environmental Health initiatives address the relationship between human health and the physical environment, covering areas such as child care, epidemiology, food safety, indoor air quality, lead health, methamphetamine labs, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs focus on regulations concerning critical materials, mortgage surveys, wastewater management, public water systems, aquifer protection, and sewage evaluations. Family Planning services include education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams, and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Immunizations for children are provided at local health departments, often at low or no cost for families in need, alongside overseas immunizations by appointment. Adult vaccines may also be offered.
