For inquiries, reach out to the Medical Reserve Corps at 208-415-5180 or the Swine Flu Hotline at 208-415-5299. Idaho comprises seven health districts that collaborate closely with the Department of Health and Welfare along with various state and local organizations. Each district has its own health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They address local health needs by offering diverse services that can differ between districts, including community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, often through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information regarding available services in your area, contact your local District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to create a unified statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism and other public health crises. Environmental Health programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment, covering areas such as daycare inspections, epidemiology, food establishment permits, indoor air quality, lead health, methamphetamine labs, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs include critical materials regulation, mortgage surveys, non-domestic wastewater, public water systems, aquifer protection, shallow injection well inventory, subdivision reviews, and subsurface sewage evaluations. Family Planning services offer education, counseling, pregnancy testing, physical exams, and referrals, providing various birth control methods and community presentation materials. Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations at clinics, often at low or no cost, and provide overseas immunizations by appointment. The Immunization Registry is a confidential service that tracks immunizations for individuals and their doctors. The WIC program supports women, infants, and children by offering nutritious foods, health screenings, nutrition classes, and referrals to healthcare providers. General health information and referrals can be accessed through the Resource Nurse program, which may offer vouchers for acute healthcare needs. The Women's Health Check program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance coverage for these services.
