Idaho's seven health districts collaborate closely with the Department of Health and Welfare, along with various state and local organizations. Each district operates independently from state agencies and tailors its services to meet local requirements, which can differ across districts. Services include community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For updated information on available services in your area, reach out to your local District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office works alongside the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other public health districts to develop a unified statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism threats and public health emergencies. Environmental Health initiatives focus on the intersection of human health with the physical environment and ecosystems, covering areas such as Day Care Health Inspections, epidemiology, food establishment permits, indoor air quality, lead health programs, and solid waste management. Family Planning services encompass education, counseling, pregnancy testing, and comprehensive physical exams, including cancer and STD screenings. Local health departments offer routine childhood vaccinations at low or no cost, and adult vaccines may also be available. The Immunization Registry is a confidential service that tracks vaccination history. The WIC program provides essential nutrition support for women, infants, and children, including healthy food vouchers and health education. Additionally, the Women's Health Check program offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women. For general inquiries, including locations and appointments, please call.
