Public mental health services are concentrated in key areas: Community Crisis Response and assistance for adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) or children dealing with significant emotional disturbances. COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE SERVICES serve as the initial intervention for adults in mental health crises, which may include psychiatric symptoms like self-harm or threats to others. Each Welfare region in Idaho features a community health center along with one or more satellite offices that offer 24/7 crisis response services, including hotlines, emergency psychiatric evaluations, treatment referrals, and consultations with law enforcement, local hospitals, and other social service agencies as needed. SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS services cater to individuals aged 18 and older who are affected by the most severe and enduring forms of mental illness. Eligible individuals must have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, major affective disorder, delusional disorder, or borderline personality disorder, with the condition significantly impairing their functioning in at least two areas, either continuously or intermittently. SPMI services encompass screening and referral, assertive community treatment, crisis intervention, case management, psychiatric and medical services, short-term outpatient therapy, individual and group psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as consultation, education, and community supportive employment. The Mental Health Program is managed by the Division of Behavior Health, with services available in English and interpreters accessible upon request.
