MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS PHONE # 208-321-2215Swine Flu Hotline for Region 4 - 208-321-2222DISTRICT OFFICE: The seven health districts in Idaho work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local organizations. Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of state agencies. They cater to local demands by offering a wide range of services, which can differ from one district to another. These services include community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are provided through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information about available services in your area, reach out to your local District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism threats and other public health crises. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: Programs in Environmental Health address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and the ecosystem. **Environmental Health Programs cover: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Public Pools.** Land Development Programs include: Mortgage Surveys; Public Water Systems; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (Family Planning): Offers Family Planning services such as education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and sexually transmitted disease screenings), and referrals. Various birth control methods are available, along with educational materials and speakers for community events upon request. Temporary Medicaid card applications for prenatal care are also provided. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at the health department, often at low or no cost for families unable to pay. Appointments can be scheduled by contacting the local health department, which will bill your insurance. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that helps families track immunizations and ensures timely vaccinations. Always bring your immunization records to appointments. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that offers: monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition education classes, community program information, and individual counseling with registered dietitians. It supports pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers up to one year postpartum, non-nursing women up to 6 months postpartum, infants up to one year, and children under five. WOMEN'S HEALTH CHECK is a federally funded initiative providing free breast and cervical cancer screenings to eligible women without insurance coverage for these tests, who meet income requirements and are U.S. Citizens or possess an Alien ID card. Eligibility includes women aged 50-64, those aged 40-49 without a pap test in 5 years or longer, or those aged 30-49 with breast cancer symptoms (clinician approval required), among others. Languages spoken include English, with interpreters available.
