The Public Health Preparedness office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism threats and public health crises. Environmental Health initiatives focus on the intersection of human health with the environment, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology (including animal bites and foodborne illnesses), food establishment permits, and public pool inspections. Land Development Programs address mortgage surveys, public water systems, subdivision reviews, and subsurface sewage evaluations. The Reproductive Health program offers family planning services, including education, counseling, pregnancy testing, and comprehensive physical exams, along with referrals and educational materials for community outreach. Immunization services are provided through local health departments, offering low-cost or free childhood vaccinations and maintaining an Immunization Registry to track vaccination status. The WIC program supports Women, Infants, and Children by providing healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, and individual counseling.
