Head Start (Weiser) - El Venadito

Head Start is a national preschool initiative aimed at children from families that meet income eligibility criteria. Local nonprofit organizations manage Head Start centers across the country, accepting applications for children aged 0 to 5 years. Families must have incomes below poverty guidelines, although a limited number of children with special needs from higher-income families may also be accepted. The program addresses various needs, including medical, dental, educational, and social services, all provided at no cost. Required documentation includes income verification, the child's birth certificate, and immunization records. Head Start offers supportive services such as social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, disability assistance, and dental care, along with transportation. The program enriches the lives of children, families, staff, and the community, providing quality education and family-centered services. It operates five days a week for 12 hours each day, providing four meals daily and encouraging parental involvement through volunteer opportunities.
