Head Start (Weiser) -Wicap

Head Start is a national preschool initiative aimed at children from families that qualify based on income. Local nonprofit organizations operate Head Start centers across the country, accepting applications for children aged 0 to 5 years. Families must have incomes below poverty guidelines, although a limited number of children with special needs or at high risk may be accepted even if they exceed these income limits. The program offers free services, including assistance with medical, dental, educational, and social needs, and requires verification of income, the child's birthdate, and immunization records. Head Start provides various supportive services such as social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, disability support, and transportation. The program aims to enhance the lives of children, families, staff, and the community by helping families navigate challenges through quality education and family-centered services. It operates a four-day week program lasting 3.5 hours, with meals provided, and encourages parental involvement through volunteering.
