This program provides financial support to assist low-income households in managing their home energy expenses. Regular Benefits can range from $20 to $500, with amounts determined by factors such as income, the ages of household members, energy costs, and living arrangements. Generally, it is a one-time benefit within the program year. Emergency Benefits are accessible for those eligible for HEAP who face energy-related crises, like power shutoffs or low fuel supplies. Households must pass a resource test, and benefit amounts can vary. Additionally, Heating Equipment Repair or Replacement Benefits are offered to fix or replace essential heating systems. Cooling Assistance Benefits are available for those who have received a regular benefit over $21 and have a medical condition worsened by heat, allowing them to acquire air conditioning or fans. Clean and Tune Benefits cover cleaning and minor repairs of heating equipment, including chimney cleaning and installation of safety devices, with costs covered up to $400.

Intake Procedure: Applications for regular HEAP benefits can be submitted online at www.mybenefits.ny.gov or in person, and telephone interviews are also an option.
