This initiative delivers extra nutrition in the form of nutritious meals and snacks aimed at preschool and school-aged children, as well as adults in day care. Eligible participants include licensed child care centers, Head Start programs, family day care homes, adult day care centers, and homeless shelters catering to families, all of which receive reimbursement for a portion of the meals provided. The program is overseen at the federal level by the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) within the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
