Deaf Infant School Program - St. Mary's School For The Deaf

This initiative serves infants and toddlers experiencing hearing loss, communication challenges, or multiple disabilities by providing a small classroom environment 2 to 3 days a week, utilizing a Total Communication, Language Rich Environment (LRE). The teaching approach is centered on language, delivering information through voice, sign language, images, music, and tangible objects. Children are encouraged to engage in special activities like music and dance classes, along with weekly community field trips. Additionally, weekly home visits by a NYS Certified Teacher of the Deaf are arranged to guide families on effective communication and interactive techniques for home use. Families can also access sign language classes and various support services through the Parent Center.

Intake Procedure: Visit the school for a tour. Submit an application to the State Education Department, including an Audiogram/Speech & Language Report.
