Youthworks - Town Of Amherst Youth & Recreation Department

This service operates year-round, acting as a bridge between residents of Amherst who require help with additional tasks around their homes and local youth aged 12-20 eager to assist. Teens interested in working submit an application specifying the types of jobs they are open to. Residents can make requests for assistance, outlining the tasks they need help with. A participating teen is then notified about the job opportunity, receiving the specifics of the task along with the resident's contact details. The teen reaches out to the resident to arrange the schedule for the job and discuss payment. Safety considerations prevent the acceptance of jobs involving ladder climbing, roof work, heavy lifting, or driving. Available tasks include raking, shoveling, mowing, weeding, gardening, tutoring, running errands, pet care, child care, assisting the elderly or disabled, computer tutoring, cleaning basements or garages, helping with parties, and light housekeeping.

To apply: Teens interested in working should talk to their parents about YouthWorks and, if they wish to proceed, complete an application and send it to the Lorraine Lee Youth and Rec office at 1615 Amherst Manor Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221. Fees: There are no participation fees. The payment for youth workers should be negotiated between the resident and the teen, with a minimum wage for the first hour and for each subsequent hour. Youth should receive their payment at the end of each workday.
