- Shelter access requires a referral from DSS. To utilize Emergency Housing for Homeless Persons, a referral must be obtained from a DSS office or hotline operator. For Nassau County, contact (516)227-8519 or the emergency line at (516)573-8626. For Suffolk County, reach out to (631)854-9517 or the emergency number at (631)854-9100. If ineligible for DSS services, contact the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless at (631)464-4314.
