Nassau County District Attorney

The Bureau is dedicated to prosecuting cases of sexual assault, domestic violence, abuse of vulnerable individuals, and child abuse. It includes two specialized divisions: the Human Trafficking Unit and the Elder Abuse Unit. The Elder Abuse Unit focuses on investigating and prosecuting acts of physical violence against individuals aged 65 and older, particularly those committed by family members or caregivers, whether in residential facilities or at home. This unit collaborates with the Nassau County Enhanced Multi-Disciplinary Team, which includes Adult Protective Services and the Nassau County Office for the Aging, to assess allegations of elder abuse, offer support and resources to victims and their families, and pursue legal action when warranted. The Human Trafficking Unit handles investigations and prosecutions related to sex trafficking and prostitution offenses, including cases in the Human Trafficking Intervention Court, which assists individuals charged with prostitution and related crimes. The unit also provides ongoing training for Assistant District Attorneys, law enforcement, and community members to enhance early identification of trafficking cases and prevent such incidents in Nassau County.
