The Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) Program allocates funds for five key services: Street Outreach to connect with homeless individuals and families living on the streets, Emergency Shelter to enhance the quantity and quality of shelters for those in need, Homeless Prevention to avert homelessness for families and individuals, Rapid Re-Housing to facilitate transitions from shelters to permanent housing, and HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) costs. The Homeless Prevention component is the only one that directly aids the public; however, most ESG funds are not available to individuals directly. In Nassau County, if you are homeless and staying in a shelter that receives ESG funding, you may benefit from these resources, which can cover staffing, operational expenses, food, and other necessities. If you are in a shelter and your household is listed on the Coordinated Entry List managed by the local Continuum of Care (CoC), you may receive Rapid Re-Housing services funded by ESG, with several programs available in Nassau County.

Intake Process: To meet with the Homeless Prevention Office, an appointment is necessary as walk-ins are not permitted. Residents facing eviction with 72-hour notices should call the ESG 72-Hour Eviction Notice Line at (516) 571-0090, while other inquiries can be directed to the ESG Homeless Prevention line at (516) 572-2330.
