Center For Community Adjustment

Addresses the specific educational requirements of students who are emotionally, behaviorally, or developmentally disabled to a mild/moderate extent through three specialized programs located on a secure campus. The Nassau Education and Treatment (NET) Program is a partnership involving Nassau BOCES, Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Hospital (Phase I), and North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center (Phase II). This initiative caters to the therapeutic, medical, and educational needs of students diagnosed with various psychiatric conditions. The instructional framework aligns with the New York State Learning Standards and is tailored to accommodate students' cognitive abilities and learning preferences. Students have the chance to earn a New York State Regents diploma or another state-recognized high school diploma, as well as college credits through a collaboration with S.U.N.Y Farmingdale State College. The Modified High School Program is tailored to address the educational and behavioral requirements of students with diverse abilities, blending transitional and prevocational skills training with functional academics and New York State Learning standards. Instruction is also aligned with the Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) standards, leading to a Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential (SACC). The Life Skills Enrichment Program provides a curriculum focused on daily living skills, underpinned by functional academics to foster job readiness. This instruction adheres to the Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential (SACC) guidelines. Students engage in unpaid internships at various public and non-profit organizations, including supermarkets, offices, parks, and small businesses, under the supervision of Nassau BOCES staff and on-site personnel to acquire essential entry-level skills. CCA’s behavior support program promotes positive decision-making, acknowledges student accomplishments, and aligns with the school’s mission to offer specially tailored instruction that meets the social-emotional, academic, behavioral, and transitional needs of students. Through a collaborative approach involving students, staff, families, school districts, and external agencies, CCA fosters a safe and supportive educational environment that empowers students to become productive, functional, and independent members of society.
