This initiative oversees programs and services designed to boost employability, foster independence, and support the development of skills and strengths in individuals who are legally blind. Key offerings include the Equipment Loan Fund, which permits individuals to borrow up to $4,000 for adaptive equipment purchases. Additionally, there are services for children who are legally blind, focusing on early intervention rehabilitation, empowering parents, coordinating educational support, and facilitating transitions to adult services. Vocational rehabilitation programs cater to adults and youth aged 14 to 21, offering assessments, information and referrals, casework, job coaching, orientation and mobility training, independent living skills training, and assistive technology support. Independent living services are available for those not qualifying for vocational rehabilitation or other NYSCB programs, tailored to individual needs and may encompass orientation and mobility services, rehabilitation teaching, low vision services and devices, social casework, and adaptive equipment.
