Eastern Suffolk Boces Alternative Program At Pal-O-Mine

This initiative targets students between 16 and 21 years old who are either assigned to the center through court recommendations or are at-risk individuals whose educational needs are not being fulfilled in their current schools. The program focuses on equipping students to fulfill the criteria for a Regents, Local, or High School Equivalency Diploma. It incorporates contextualized learning, career readiness, and skills development into everyday instruction. By employing a non-traditional educational approach, the program aims to boost academic success while providing students with practical, real-world experiences through collaborative work opportunities at Pal-O-Mine’s Equestrian, Inc. Additionally, it includes both individual and group counseling, substance abuse support, and training in employment and soft skills. Each participant receives a tailored treatment plan that addresses their unique needs, strengths, and challenges. The program offers a comprehensive range of transitional services, with each student collaborating with a counselor to create a personalized transition plan that addresses educational, employment, and transportation requirements, as well as connecting them with community resources. Eastern Suffolk BOCES has formed partnerships with various federal, state, and local organizations to enhance support for at-risk students.
