Riverhead Correctional Facility

S.A.T.I. is a groundbreaking initiative in the country, functioning from within a correctional facility. It leads efforts against human trafficking by creating a comprehensive and effective response to this crime. The unit collaborates with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to gather and share intelligence obtained from the correctional environment. Furthermore, they refer victims to advocacy organizations and work closely with them to aid victims in their recovery journey. The main goals are to ensure that all human trafficking victims who enter the facility are identified, provided with necessary services for recovery, and supported throughout their long-term healing process as survivors. The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office has dedicated teams in the Human Trafficking Unit monitoring activities both within correctional facilities and in the surrounding community.
