Yaphank Correctional Facility

S.A.T.I. represents a groundbreaking initiative in the country, functioning within a correctional facility to combat human trafficking. This program has established a thorough and effective strategy to address the crime from a correctional perspective. It collaborates with federal, state, and local law enforcement by gathering and sharing intelligence derived from the correctional environment. Furthermore, S.A.T.I. refers victims to advocacy organizations and works closely with them to support victims on their path to recovery. The main goals include identifying all human trafficking victims who enter the facility, ensuring they have access to necessary recovery services, and providing ongoing support throughout their journey as survivors. The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office has assigned teams within the Human Trafficking Unit to monitor activities both inside the correctional facilities and in the surrounding community.
