This initiative trains dogs to act as companions and ears for individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, placing them in homes that fulfill certain eligibility standards.

Intake Process: Interested individuals should visit the website to complete an application. Once the application is submitted, the placement screening committee evaluates the medical documentation (an Audiogram indicating the current level of hearing loss). Following an in-home interview, a decision is made regarding the potential assistance a dog can provide to the applicant. Those who qualify will be added to a waiting list and informed when a suitable dog becomes available. The applicant will receive a notification regarding the placement date and is requested to set aside a week to train with the dog and the accompanying trainer who will come to their home. Note that approval from an employer is necessary for Program Assistance Dogs.
