- To qualify, the decedent must have passed away within Salt Lake County, have an annual income below 150% of the federal poverty level, and possess no life insurance, burial insurance, or prepaid funeral arrangements. The next of kin must also have a household income under 150% of the federal poverty level and must not have any life insurance, burial insurance, or prepaid funeral plans for the decedent, or they must be unwilling to take responsibility for the remains, with no other individual or organization stepping in.
