The service conducts investigations into all fatalities caused by violence, unexpected or suspicious circumstances, non-natural deaths in the workplace, deaths that occur while individuals are in law enforcement custody or receiving mental health care, sudden infant deaths, and fatalities linked to medical procedures. Additionally, it manages the recovery of tissues and organs from donors, with all investigations carried out by a qualified medical examiner instead of a coroner.
